Uploaded files stay on your device. Saving a snapshot is your choice. Updated September 18, 2026.

Local imports

Files selected in the checker are read and compared in your browser. The import interface does not upload their contents or account lists to MutualLens’s server. Reports remain in memory unless you explicitly choose to save a local snapshot or download a file.

Closing or refreshing the page loses the current in-memory report. Clearing a report removes it from the interface, but is not a secure memory-erasure guarantee. Your device and browser may manage memory outside the app’s control.

Optional local snapshots

Choosing “Save snapshot locally” stores the supplied dataset and provenance in IndexedDB on the checker origin. Saving defaults off. Anyone using the same browser profile may access these snapshots, so consider shared-device access before saving.

“Delete all local snapshots” clears the app’s snapshot store on that checker origin. It cannot remove files you downloaded, copies in another browser profile, browser backups, or data stored by other services. Browser settings may also clear local data without preserving a backup.

Automatic checks

Automatic checking is currently unavailable. The checker requests service availability without sending an Instagram username or starting a scan.

When enabled, automatic checking sends the requested username to our server and Apify, the source provider, to collect relationship records. Our stored scan data expires after one hour. Provider-side retention is separate; deletion is requested, but this browser cannot guarantee when the provider removes its copies. This workflow is not entirely on your device.

Separate origins

The public pages and checker use different browser origins. The public pages cannot ordinarily read the checker’s DOM or IndexedDB under the browser’s same-origin protections. Navigation links do not carry usernames, graph data, or session tokens. Clicking an external Instagram profile link takes you to Instagram under its own policies.

Website requests and hosting

Opening either website sends normal network requests to its hosting provider. Infrastructure may process IP addresses, request metadata, and security logs. The application avoids relationship data and target usernames in URLs, and it contains no marketing analytics, session replay, or social embeds.

Ads and tracking

MutualLens does not load advertising scripts, marketing analytics, session replay or social embeds. The checker is ad-free.
